I recently donated this photo image to Standard Chartered Bank for their auction last November 9, the proceeds of which will go to their Seeing is Believing Program which helps tackle preventable and curable blindness. This is part of the bank's 140 years anniversary where they launched a nationwide photo competition entitled "Capturing Timeless Visions". The winners and finalist of the said competition together with the donors will be featured on a coffeetable book that will be launched this coming december. Other donors include, Bien Bautista, Elmer Borlongan, Sonny Camarillo, Rosscapili, Nap Jamir, Ronald Jayme, Sonny Joaquin and George Tapan. For more info about the program you may visit Standard Chartered Bank's Seeing is Believing website.

Juggling between work and helping out on wifey's small business, I'm trying to jump-start on some new works for my July solo exhibit.

Pure Imagination at Altromondo

Pure Imagination at Altromondo
Opens on September 4, 2012

In 1915, Malevich exhibited a picture that lacked reference to any object in the real world. A ground zero for the visual arts, Black Square is said to have signalled an early end to abstraction in painting which came as a response to photography. And yet we all know the story: the abstract in art remains a vibrant movement as it was then as it is now.
From the realm of the real into the vortex of pure imagination, young artists continue to mine abstraction to come up with new shapes and revitalize old figures. An exploration of creative spaces, frames of mind, and modes of expression, the young’s varied approaches to abstraction as well as figuration in painting displaces the viewer into the territory of surface, color and form.

Something is always astir in the eye of the storm. In this group exhibition which includes works by Demosthenes Campos, Jonathan Castro, Melvin Culaba, Resty Tica, Max Balatbat, Rick Hernandez, Martin Honasan, Gary Custodio, Alrashdi Mohammad, Marlon Magbanua, Jethro Jocson, Ronaldo Ruiz, Sam Penaso, and Fitz Herrera, the realm of the canvas takes on the uncanny quality of a squared space that is not merely decorative, as what abstraction usually is suspected to be, but perhaps also dialogic, the swirl of reds and geometric blues like an alien language engaging us in some manner of speaking.

Altromondo is located at 3rd Level, Greenbelt 5, Ayala Center, Makati City

Exhibit runs until September 14, 2012.

Coaster Art Group Show at 1951 Malate

Saturday, July 28, 2012

I have this pile of botanical notes and images i got from the net that I wanted to incorporate on my artworks but can't seem to find the proper time to use it, so when I was included in the "Coaster Art" group show with a limited time to work on, i knew I have to use these images this time for some digital art since its the fastest way for me to come up with an artwork. The artwork size requirement is only around 5"x5" so basically these images from the net just fits in right for this purpose. Printed using some scrap paper at OneWorkshop, I came up with 4 artworks under an hour, the exciting part is the staining, I was thinking, since this is a coaster art, why not incorporate coffee stains at these artworks and I guess it worked out well overall.

"Coaster Art" opens on August 1 at 1951 Adriatico St. Malate Manila.
