Beach hotel project

Monday, August 12, 2019

The studies for a beach hotel project has been approved, however, the sizes are different now. From a rectangular vertical  size, the requirement is now a square one, so I have to squeeze everything down to fit that square size requirement. The finished painting looked awkward at first but I got used to looking at it and was quite happy with the outcome. Now will be sending these off to Boracay.

MISC.

Sunday, July 28, 2019

A piece for a group show titled MISC. at Kaida Contemporary in Quezon City, Philippines. Adding written text on these works (including the Manila House pieces) is something that I really want to do before but doesn't seem to fit any of my works before. I think it works on these simple abstract pieces.

Rick finds himself fascinated with the art of the urbanity, which inspires him to paint canvasses of abstracted typography and graffiti. He uses color and pattern to recreate vivid images of street art that he has encountered around the city. In so doing, he transports audiences to his world with the power of figuration and representation.
About the Artist: Rick studied Fine Arts at the Technological University of the Philippines. A multi-awarded artist, he represented the country in the First Langkawi Art Biennale in Malaysia and the 25th AIAE in Mongolia. He has participated in countless solo shows and group exhibitions in prestigious venues around the country.

HOMECOMING
By Cid Reyes

Committed to the discovery of young Filipino talents, Renaissance Art Gallery takes pride in seeing its home-grown artists spread their wings, maturing through the years in their various choice styles and definite direction.
Coinciding with its 16th anniversary is a traditional annual exhibition where the Renaissance artists come home, together under the shelter of the gallery that first gave them, individually, the opportunity to share their visions and, in so doing, gaining their measure of recognition and mark of distinction.
True to its form, and name, Renaissance Art Gallery is a “rebirthing” place, for every artist who believes in a great poet’s words: “We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”
Featuring Bien Benitez, Arley Carig, Allain Hablo, Rick Hernandez, Josef Laureano, Marlon Magbanua, Cid Reyes, Genesis Rovero, Resty Tica, Valen Valero and Meneline Wong
HOMECOMING will open on June 10, 2019 with cocktails at 6PM at the Art Center SM Megamall
Show runs until June 17, 2019

Writings on the wall

Saturday, May 11, 2019

Started a series inspired by script writing and street wall graffitis, these are then boxed-in by a border imitating classical wall moldings. Titled as "Writings on the Wall", this series is part of a group show at Vetro Gallery in Quezon City, Philippines entitled "The Worst Mistake is Not to Make Any".

Firescape 2

Entry for "Mulat" (Eyes Open) a group exhibit at The Artologist Gallery, Greenhills, San Juan City, Philippines.

Using limited color palette makes this work look simple despite the roughness and the texture of the surface, similar to first one I did a week ago.

Portrait inspired abstract works for a group-show entitled Art Harvest, in line with the February celebration of National Arts Month in the Philippines, at Gallery C of Conrad Manila in Pasay City, Philippines.

Overall I'm pleased with the outcome of these works, might be doing a series of this in the future.

Studies

Sunday, January 27, 2019

Small abstract studies on paper for a big canvas on theme of beaches. If all will go well and these studies are approved, these will be hanged on one of the Hotels at the beaches of Boracay, Philippines. God willing.
